TYPES OF HARDWOOD FLOOR
-terms you may hear-

Solid 

Solid hardwood floor as the name suggests is solid piece of floor board milled from tree trunks. They are mostly 3/4 inch thick and come in various widths. Solid wood floor is a sandable floor which makes it possible to change its color.

Engineered

Engineered wood is constructed using a base layer of plywood usually made from poplar. And a veneer of actual wood is glued on top of it. Usually not sandable. The thickness of venner determines sandability in future. Mostly 3/8 inch.

Spieces

Both solid hardwood floors and engineered wood floors are made from many speices of trees. Some are most common and available like oak. Some other spieces are pine, maple, hickory, cherry, birch, walnut and more.

Prefinished 

Unfinished

Both solid or engineered hardwood flooring are manufactured in prefinished ( or factory finished) which needs no other process after installation or unfinished which will be sanded and finished after installation.

Another company quoted us $11,284 on 650 sq ft. We could not afford to do the additional hall and utility room; however, they did the 650, plus the additional 120 ft, for far less! Beleive me, they did a great job and cleaned up afterwards. They actually installed the same flooring match as our existing floors.
